Pontprennau Rainbow run FAQ’s
What is the Pontprennau Rainbow Fun Run?
This inaugural event will be your opportunity to have some fun with your friends and family whilst supporting your local school. There will be course marked out around the playing fields adjacent to the school. As you walk, run or even skip your way around the course, you will pass colour stations where our lovely volunteers will throw beautiful coloured powder at you. Once you’ve been past each station, you can choose to stop and collect your medal or continue around the course again for another go. Participants are welcome to run as many times as they like within their 30 minute timeslot.
When is the event?
The Pontprennau Rainbow Fun Run will take place on the afternoon of Sunday 3rd April 2022. We will have 2 timeslots, one starting at 12pm and one at 1pm. You will need to select the timeslot when booking tickets. Registration will open 30 minutes before each timeslot, ticket holders must collect their wrist band in order to participate. There will be a warmup led by mission fitness at the start of each session
Do I need to be an experienced runner to enter?
Absolutely not!! This is a fun activity for all the family to enjoy. It is a flat easy course. Participants are welcome to run as much or little as they like in their 30 minute timeslot. You can walk, run or even skip the course.
Is there an age limit?
No - all ages welcome. If you have young children that don’t want to complete the whole course they can do as much or little as they want. Children under 11 must be accompanied by an adult.
Can I run if I’m pregnant?
Yes – this is up to you and your doctor – we recommend sunglasses and a mouth cover for extra protection.
I’m not a parent or guardian at the school, can I take part in the Fun Run?
This event is being organised by the Friends of Pontprennau Primary School. However, you do not need to be a parent or guardian of a child/children at the school or linked to the school in any way. We would love the local community to join us so please share our event with your friends and family too.
Can I take part with a wheelchair or pushchair?
Whilst the course is flat and accessible for wheelchairs and pushchairs, the ground may be soft. Therefore, wheelchair and pushchair users should consider this when choosing to take part.
Can I bring a dog?
Dogs must be kept on a lead at all times and are not permitted to run the course.
How much are tickets?
Participants aged 2 or over require a ticket. Children under 2 do not require a ticket and have free entry. Tickets cost £5. Wrist bands will be exchanged for a medal at the end of your timeslot. Only paying participants will receive a medal, under 2s will not receive a medal.
What if I change my mind after buying a ticket?
No refunds will be given unless the event is cancelled or postponed. Keep in touch on Facebook for updates.
Will there be refreshments or souvenirs available?
We will have a food van situated in the school car park selling hot food and an icecream van on the field. We will be selling alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks on the field and water will be available to top up reusable drinks bottles for the runners. We will be selling a selection of pocket money priced items such as sunglasses and flower garlands.
Can my friends and family watch the event without a ticket?
Yes – the more the merrier, we can not guarantee anyone will stay colour free so please bear that in mind when choosing clothing.
Can I bring a camera?
Yes, at your own risk. FoPPS doesn’t take any responsibility for loss or damage that may occur. FoPPS will take and publish photos, if you do not want to appear in these please make us aware at registration and we will give you a sticker to ensure no pictures are published showing your face.
What do I need to wear?
For maximum effect please wear a white tee-shirt (and clothes that you don’t mind getting covered in colour), generally the colour washes out of clothes but we cannot guarantee this. Top tips for getting the colour out are to dust off as much powder as possible, rinse in cold water and then wash in a normal cycle.
Is there any way to keep colour in my tee shirt as a memento?
To preserve colour you can spray with vinegar, let it dry and iron on. The colour will eventually wash out with washing though.
Will there be first aid at the event?
Yes there will be a dedicated 1st aid stand.
Is the colour powder safe?
Yes – the coloured powder is non toxic and conforms to safety standards, it is made from corn starch and talc which is then dyed with food grade colouring.
What happens if powder gets in my eyes/nose
We will do our best to ensure that powder is kept away from runners faces by having a dedicated team of colour throwers. We do recommend wearing sunglasses to keep powder out of eyes (and will have some on sale). For extra protection you can wear a bandana over your mouth at colour stations.
