Our literacy focus this week has been to write an information leaflet about dental care. The children started by recording facts, under different headings - The history of dental care, Going to the dentist, Taking care of your teeth and Foods to eat and avoid. We then created a leaflet by linking the facts together, writing under headings and adding pictures.
In numeracy this week we started by recognising tenths as decimals. We then moved on to multiplying and dividing by 10. As the week progressed we moved on to weighing in g/kg, reading different scales and converting from one measurement to the other.
Though our topic work we have been continuing to focus on science. At the beginning of the week we were identifying and labelling different types of teeth - incisors, canines, premolars and molars. We then drew a cross section of a tooth, labelling the various layers - enamel, dentine, pulp, blood vessels and nerves.
We finished the week by returning to an experiment that we started last week - to find out the affect of different liquids on our teeth. The children were drawing conclusions from their observations, recording the results, writing conclusions and evaluating the experiment.
