December

Week beginning: Monday 10th December

Quick Write:

Every morning we start the day focusing on a specific sentence type and practice writing in this style. This week, we have been using DADWAVERS to aid our writing. The first D stands for Description, A stands for Action and the second D for Dialogue.

Literacy:

The children have edited and improved their stories about the Land of Neverbelieve and have written their final draft. They came up with a class success criteria to make help with their writing.

Numeracy:

We have been revising our times tables and learning how to check the calculations using the inverse operations. E.g. 4 x 5 = 20. 20 ÷ 4 = 5. We have also been revising mental maths strategies for adding and subtracting. We have been learning how to divide numbers that have remainders. The children have chosen their own strategies to find the remainders

Week beginning: Monday 3rd December

Quick Write:

Every morning we start the day focusing on a specific sentence type and practice writing in this style. This week, we have been writing all the Ws sentences. These sentences are questions starting with why, where, what, who and when. Some of the children have been writing these as rhetorical questions as well.

Literacy:

We have started to draft our stories and the children have been using their skills from quick write to edit and improve their own writing. We have been using a technique called DADWAVERS which helps to vary their sentence types when writing. We have been focusing on the DAD part which stands for Description, Action and Dialogue.

Numeracy:

We have been learning about measuring lengths in centimetres and metres. The children have been estimating and measuring different items in the classroom. They have also investigated whether their forearm is the same length as their foot. They have begun to measure and draw lines to a certain length with accuracy.

Over the last two weeks we have been practicing our Christmas concert and Christmas songs. We hope to see you at the Christmas concert on Friday 14th December at 2pm
