We are continuing our work around the text The Three Little Pigs, using Pie Corbett’s actions to help us retell the story. We know it almost word perfectly now! We will be sequencing the story and writing sentences about each part, continuing to think about capital letters, finger spaces and full stops.
In Maths we are continuing to count in 1s, 2s, 5s and 10s, and will be doubling and halving numbers. For our focus task this week we will be practising forming our numbers properly. We have rhymes that help us:
0 - Zero
Around and ‘round and ‘round we go,
When we get home we have a zero.
1 - One
Start at the top and down we run,
When we stop we have a one.
2 – Two
Around and back on a railway track,
Two, two, two!
3 – Three
Around the tree and around the tree,
That’s the way we make a three.
4 – Four
Down and across and down some more,
That’s the way we make a four.
5 – Five
Short neck, belly fat,
Number five wears a hat.
6 – Six
Down we go and make a loop,
Number six makes a hoop.
7 – Seven
Across the sky and down from heaven,
That’s the way we make a seven.
8 – Eight
Make an ‘s’ and do not wait,
When it’s joined up you have an eight.
9 – Nine
Make a loop and then a line,
That’s the way we make a nine.

We will also be exploring money and learning to recognise all the different coins. Can your child help you pay for the shopping? Last week the children decided they would like to make puppets to accompany the story of The Three Little Pigs, so there will be the opportunity for them to do this in the creative area. They will be provided with the materials to set up a puppet show and will be able to make and sell tickets to their friends.
We have recently added plasticine to our modelling area instead of playdough. It’s harder to work with so gives our fingers a really good workout! We have added some googly eyes and are exploring making all sorts of things – people, monsters and of course, pigs! We also have some large nuts and bolts in our fiddly fingers area. Screwing and unscrewing them works the little muscles in our fingers which means they are nice and strong for when we are writing.
