Our weekly learning experiences

Week Beginning Monday 13th May

Literacy:

Our literacy project for the remainder of this half term is 'Suspense Writing'. We have been very excited to return to story writing and the children have shown great enthusiasm in their work. This week we have studied a new 'Talk4Writing' story map and learnt to read it off by heart with our own actions. Pupils have also begun using descriptive language to create their own suspense scenes.

Numeracy:

After a lot of test practice our lesson focus has returned to normal. We have been working on multiplication skills, using number facts to help us multiply numbers by 20, 30, 40 and 50. The week saw us practice these skills within word problems, and ending with practice of the grid method.

Week Beginning Monday 6th May

Literacy:

This Wednesday pupils completed the first of their summer tests. They worked incredibly hard and really did themselves proud! Well done Blwyddyn 3!

Our writing focus this week has been the story of Mary Jones from North Wales. We have studied her life and taken notes. This progressed to the children rewriting her story in their own works. Finally, the children read each others stories and marked them themselves according to specific success criteria.

Numeracy:

We returned to normal numeracy lessons in order to give pupils a brief break from test practice for the majority of this week. The focus was on practising mental maths skills, adding and subtracting from 3 digit numbers. Also, we briefly studied ordering and comparing fractions. The next summer test is the reasoning and problem solving paper that will be sat on Monday 13th May.
