Week starting: 07/05/2018
We follow Cornerstones curriculum content to follow a project each term. Our context for Learning this term is called 'Who lives in a rock pool?'
Which creatures live on the seashore? Why do crabs have shells? The children will get to explore these questions and more in thus project about the seashore and the plants and animals that live there.
For example;
Its a Bank Holiday on Monday 7th May and school will be closed. It looks like its going to be lovely weather so we hope you enjoy the break.
This week (starting on Tuesday) we will base our activities and tasks on the book 'Commotion in the Ocean' by Giles Andreae.
There will be 2 focus tasks this week. The first will be looking at continuing and finishing sequencing the story. The writing table will also include materials to make puppets of the characters from the story, blank books and word mats for the children to create their own book as well as mark making opportunities such as making spiral patterns in a variety of materials.
The second focus task will be within the creative area, where the children will get to experience a real crab and lobster on ice to draw observations of them. We will also continue with lots of opportunities with watercolours, wax crayons, play dough and junk modelling to create line drawings, pictures and models of characters in the story and copy real life images of under the ocean. Also, every week the children will have the opportunity to collect a variety of items found on the beach to contribute to a beach art piece of work. If you have collected anything from your visit to the beach we would love to have these.
The children have enjoyed finding out about different coins and paying for items in the Toy shop and Hairdressers within the role play area. This week we will have a fishing game where the children are encouraged to match numbers.
Outside will include lots of beach games, making sand sculptures, building boats and rock pool from construction and exploring the flow of water using the bamboo guttering.
During cookery, Mrs Gale will be making Jam Tart boats with the children. Within Gardening, Mrs Powell will be planting in the top playground.
Our daily carpet sessions will include; Phonics, Literacy, CLIC (Maths) and Welsh. During the week the children will also have opportunities to participate in Music, I.T, Cookery, Gardening, PE and Library sessions. Once a week we run a carousel whereby the children all engage with Guided Group Reading and also experience other activities including Dough Disco and Digit Dancing, a variety of activities to develop their fine and gross motor skills, story time and Write Dance.
