W/ C Monday 30th November 2015

This week will be the start of our new topic…..

‘Will you read me a story?’

This week, we are very much looking forward to a storyteller coming to school to tell us lots of traditional tales including ‘Goldilocks and the Three Bears’, which will be our story stimulus for this week.

Mathematical Development

In our counting sessions we will continue to practise counting forwards, backwards, in Welsh and will continue to count in 2's, 5's and 10's. The children will continue to practise halving and doubling and we will be introducing the near doubles of 1+2=3 and 2+3 =5. In our maths sessions we will also be digit dancing and will be practising forming numbers with correct formation and orientation as well as recognising numbers above 10. We will be learning to read numbers to 20, especially the tricky numbers 11, 12, 13.

One of our focussed tasks this week will be a ‘Goldilocks and the Three Bears’ Sorting activity. Children will be learning how to match Daddy Bear’s, Mummy Bear’s and Baby Bear’s bowls, chairs to the correct bear. Some children will be challenged to think of small, medium and large objects in our classroom too.

Language and Literacy

During our literacy sessions we will be recapping the phonic sounds & songs from the last few weeks and will be focussing on learning the letter sounds w, ng, v, oo/oo.

The children will be listening to a story about each of these sounds and then will learn the corresponding song and action, as well as be introduced on how to form these letters with correct formation and orientation.

One of our focussed activities will be to use the iPad to create a picture and text about our favourite part of the story ‘Goldilocks and the Three Bears’. We will be learning how to use a ‘paint’ app to create a picture and begin to add text to write about our work.

We will of course be doing individual reading with the children too!

Creative Development & Knowledge and Understanding of the world

It’s that time of year where we will be very busy practising for our Christmas concert this week. We will be practicing our lines, singing the songs and practising performing on our brand new stage! Please help at home too by practicing any words from the play that your child might have brought home from school.

Our PE sessions this half term will be focussed on gymnastic activities. We are building up a bank of gymnastic moves and this week will be practicing ‘bunny hopping’ and the ‘camel’.
