Week Beginning 14th May 2018

Week starting: 14/05/2018

We follow Cornerstones curriculum content to follow a project each term. Our context for Learning this term is called 'Who lives in a rock pool?'

Which creatures live on the seashore? Why do crabs have shells? The children will get to explore these questions and more in thus project about the seashore and the plants and animals that live there.

For example;

  • seashore plants and animals
  • pollution
  • features of the seashore
  • water safety
  • properties of natural materials
  • art using found materials

This week we will base our activities and tasks on the Welsh book Tedi Twt Ar Lan Y Mor.

There will be 2 focus tasks this week. The first will be literacy based where the children will get to make a book about items they like on the beach e.g Dw in hoffi.....bwced (bucket).

The second focus task will be within our investigation area looking at floating and sinking boats in the water play. We will continue with the observational drawings of real crabs and lobsters on ice in the creative area. Also here there will be materials for the children to make their own flags and kites.

Within our role play, we will change the theme this week to include items you would find at the beach or when you go swimming to fit with the book and topic.

In Our Maths area, there will be lots of opportunities with weighing and making a continuing pattern of shells and pebbles or beach items. We will also have a fishing game where the children are encouraged to match numbers.

In our outdoor area, as well as our huge sand pit area to explore and make sculptures, there will be brilliant beach games, building boats in the construction and a Welsh item game using flashcards and the parachute!

During cookery, Mrs Gale will be making Jam Tart boats with the children. Within Gardening, Mrs Powell will be planting in the top playground.

Our daily carpet sessions will include; Phonics, Literacy, CLIC (Maths) and Welsh. During the week the children will also have opportunities to participate in Music, I.T, Cookery, Gardening, PE and Library sessions. Once a week we run a carousel whereby the children all engage with Guided Group Reading and also experience other activities including Dough Disco and Digit Dancing, a variety of activities to develop their fine and gross motor skills, story time and Write Dance.

Thank you

I would like to say a huge thank you to the parents and children of the school that brought in sponsorship for the Superhero Run in aid of Noah's Ark Charity. I am delighted to say that the total raised was £2745 and the charity are overwhelmed.
