W/C 9th May 2016

W/C Monday 9th May 2016

The children have enjoyed learning about dinosaurs and had lots of fun being ‘Dinosaur Explorers’. This week, we will be continuing our dinosaur theme with the children’s ideas created in our Pupil Voice Sessions.

Language and Literacy

The children will be listening to a variety of dinosaur stories throughout the week.

We will also exploring a variety of non fiction books learning amazing facts about dinosaurs. Within our enhanced provision, the children will be practising letter formation using gel bags and will create their own fact books in the writing area.

As a focus task the children will be writing lists of all of the facts that they have learnt about dinosaurs.

Our individual and guided group reading sessions will continue this week and the children will also have their daily phonics sessions.

Mathematical Development

The focus of our maths sessions this week will continue to be subtraction. The children will be encouraged to use objects, pictures, their fingers & number lines to solve a variety of dinosaur subtraction problems. This week, our focus task will be carried out on our new Prowise Boards. The children will be encouraged to write number sentences independently.

We will continue with our counting sessions, practising counting in 2's, 5's, 10's as well as practising our addition. As always we will continue to do our digit dancing, practising to form our numbers with correct formation and orientation.

This term the children will be developing their balancing & ball skills in our PE sessions.

Creative development & Knowledge and understanding

In our pupil voice sessions the children asked to make dinosaur masks and make dinosaur puppets.  The children also wanted to create their own ‘Dinosaur World’ using wooden blocks. All of these activities and more will be on offer to the children throughout the week.
