Welcome

Welcome to the website of Pontprennau Primary School.

My name is Mr Ian James and I am the very proud Headteacher of the school. I joined the school in April 2021 and I have been struck by the wonderful pupils, incredible building and the warm, welcoming community of staff, parents and carers.

The school is still relatively young in its history having been opened in September 2015 to just a Nursery and a Reception cohort.

In September 2021 we had a Year 6 cohort for the first time.

As Headteacher of the school, it is my privilege to support the development of young people and the members of staff who work at the school. I also see it as a privilege to be able to help others in the community, encouraging everyone to feel part of the school’s vision and values. The school is a learning organisation and everyone should have access to learning opportunities.

We are at a very exciting time for education in Wales. The Curriculum for Wales 2022 is a new and dynamic opportunity for the school to provide the curriculum that the children of the school community need. It is a framework that will allow children to help to lead their learning, deciding how to learn, working towards Four Purposes of Education. We want our pupils to be proud of their school, its place in Wales but also its place in the world.

The school was cleverly added to the already existing Community Centre that existed before 2015. This means that the school can support local clubs and facilities to provide after-school activities for children and adults in the community. Again, this allows the school to provide learning opportunities to adults and children.

The school and the community warmly encourage you to look through our website as well as to follow our social media feeds.

Diolch yn fawr,

Mr I James
