Language & Literacy

Our story focus for this week is "Commotion In The Ocean"

As there is lots of rhyme throughout this story, the children will be exploring rhyme themselves.

How do we make words that rhyme with each other? How many rhyming words can they make? Can they make rhyming sentences?

Reading assessments will continue this week too.

Mathematical development

This week the children will be going on a fish number hunt. They will be hunting for the hidden fish and will then work together to order the non sequential numbers to 20.

The children will also be playing some group dice games, practising their number recognition, addition and subtraction skills in a fun way. The children will discuss ordinal number and explain who came first, second , third and fourth in their game.

Creative

The children asked for junk modelling back out this week so there will be lots of opportunities for the children to design and create their own sea creatures.

The children also asked to taste some seafood.... So although we won't be having fish to eat in the classroom the children will have the opportunity to taste crispy seaweed and lavabread if they wish.

The children also asked  to have some more sea creatures in the investigation area to draw, so we are hoping to have some squid for the children to observe and draw too.

If the weather is hot this week, we would be grateful if you could dress your child appropriately with a sun hat if required and ensure they come to school wearing sun cream.
