You can help your child become independent by allowing and encouraging them to take responsibility for themselves whenever possible. In Reception we have a ‘sniffle station’ where children blow their noses and then wash their hands independently – we hope this means less colds this Winter! We encourage children to wash their hands whilst singing ‘happy birthday’ – this gives them enough time to wash their hands properly. We are teaching the children how to put on their coats independently and show them how to do up their zips or buttons. The children are beginning to get changed independently for PE.
