Week Beginning 6th March 2017

The story of The Three Little Pigs will be used as a stimulus for the children's learning and play this week.  The children will be introduced to Pie Corbett's storytelling actions and they will learn the actions to accompany the retelling of the story. Ask your child to tell you the story and perform the actions.

In our Literacy sessions this week we will be focusing on sentence writing; capital letter, full stops and spacing. The story of 'The Three Little Pigs' will be the stimulus for the children's sentence writing.

We will continue to practise counting in 2s, 5s and 10s and practise doubling 1,2,3,4, 5 and halving numbers 2, 4, 6, 8, 10. Our MD focus task this week will involve the children developing their understanding of the concept of time. They will use non-standard units to measure time, as they participate in an obstacle course against their friends. We will also practise using ordinal numbers; 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th.

The children will have the opportunity to access a range of learning activities in the indoor and outdoor learning environments. In the construction area the children will be challenged to build houses out of straw, sticks and bricks. They will be invited to explore the different materials and their properties. Materials to create masks to use in the role play area / small world area will be available for the children. The children will be presented with images of different buildings / structures including castles, houses, bridges etc. They will be challenged to use a variety of blocks to build a wall, paying particular attention to the arrangement of the bricks. Blank books and story word mats will be available for the children to re-write the story and or create a story map of The Three Little Pigs.
