Week Beginning 22nd January 2018

Our focus for Maths will look at subtraction and for our literacy task we will ask the children to label (by writing) the parts of a snake/lizard. Within these areas there will be enhanced provision activities, including threading beads, writing their own fact books and tracing Chameleons.

To start the week, on Monday, ZooLab will be coming to school to give a demonstration to the children of the different reptiles they have. Please refer to the letter sent home on 17/01/2018 that explained that the children are not forced to touch the reptiles.

From this, Im sure it will spark lots of conversation with the children, like it did to start the topic! Therefore, this week, we won't particularly focus on one reptile but the activities within the continuous provision will include all reptiles. So, there will be lots on offer for the children to explore, including; play dough, junk modelling, sock puppets, painting and making Chameleon pictures from the book 'Mixed Up' by Eric Carle in the creative area.

The children will also get to explore books, games like 'Snakes and Ladders' and use their fine motor skills to pick up objects from suckers with tweezers. Within our role play area, the children will play with their reptile sock puppets that would've made in the creative area. Please refer to the text, if your child would like to make one, please supply a white sock.

Within our outdoor provision, the children will have the opportunity to make a bubble snake, giant snake and ladders and explore with giant roller paints to great large scale snake patterns.

We now have carpet inputs for the children during the school day, which we will continue. These include; Phonics Sessions, Clic (Maths) and Welsh. During the week, Music, I.T, Cookery and Gardening sessions will continue, along with P.E, library and reading. The teachers have also started Guided Group Reading and during this afternoon, the children also get to experience other activities within areas of learning, such as I Pads, writing, Dough Disco, puzzles, and listening to a story on a rota (Carousel) basis.
